NBA: Potential Landing Spots for Top Free Agents

NBA Kevin Durant

Tomorrow’s NBA Free Agent period will kick off with a bang. Plenty of big names are on the market. Where do we think they can land?

Kawhi Leonard and Kevin Durant – LA Clippers:

Sorry fans, rumor has it these two are a package deal and what better way to try and steal the spotlight from Lebron James than playing in the same city he’s trying to finalize his legacy. With the duo looking to create another dominant team, putting their own LA start-up together would be a baller move in today’s one-up NBA.

Jimmy Butler: Houston Rockets

This would need to be a sign and trade but The Rockets seem to think they’ve got a pretty good chance at landing Butler when free agency starts and why wouldn’t Butler consider. The Rockets finished fourth last year and don’t seem to be slowing any time soon.

Kyrie Irving – Brooklyn Nets

Yes, as much history as there is playing in MSG, the Knicks miss out again. The Brooklyn Nets are just in a better position of Irving wants to win right away. With the front office driving player after player out of New York, nothing about that Knicks team says they’re ready to win in an already star-studded NBA. Sure they have the talent to be competitive, but as far as a complete team that’s ready to take on a team as the Warriors goes, they aren’t one. Pride leads Kyrie to Brooklyn.

Kemba Walker – Charlotte Hornets

As much as the Hornets don’t want to enter the luxury tax, it might be time to pay the piper. After disappearing from the league, the Hornets are finally back and competitive again. What’s worse, paying a luxury tax while your team continues to sell tickets and put fans in the stands or going back to a bottom feeding team selling BOGO season tickets just to try and get fans back in the stands. Losing out on profitability is no different than spending a little more to make it. Unless the Hornets can bring Walker back, this team is in free fall mode. Walker has already stated he’d give a home town discount, now the two sides need to make a deal happen

Klay Thompson – Golden State Warriors

Another player likely to stay put. With a torn ACL to finish out the season, Thompson is still being offered a max deal to stick around a team that has been dominant for the past few seasons. By now the overwhelming consensus when a team is that in control every year fans have to love them and the athletes probably have formed a bond in the community. Thompson has zero reasons to move on from the GSW.
