NBA Rumors: Clippers Can Offer Spurs A Package For Kawhi Leonard

The Los Angeles Clippers have sent two of their Big 3 packing in trades involving Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. The only player left is DeAndre Jordan who will be a free agent this year. With Kawhi Leonard going through his issues with the San Antonio Spurs this season, there is speculation that he may have played his last game for the Spurs.

But can the Clippers pull off a trade for one of the best two-way players in the NBA?

For the deal to be made, the Clippers, according to Jason Reed of LA Sports Hub will need to offer a package of Tobias Harris, Sam Dekker, Patrick Beverley and two first-rounders for Leonard and the Spurs’ first-round pick. Reed would mention that losing Harris would be a blow, but receiving Leonard could have the Clippers on a fast track to contention.

But that still begs a bigger question for the Clippers. Is Kawhi Leonard worth resetting their roster?

Spurs Would Be Smart To Go After Kawhi Leonard

The Clippers finished the 2017 season with a record of 42-40 which placed them just five games short of the playoffs. However, Harris (19.3 points, 6.0 rebounds), was a major reason for the turnaround. Beverley and Dekker would not be great losses especially with Danilo Gallinari and Wesley Johnson on the wings. Then comes the draft picks. The Clippers could give up what looks to be the 12th and 13th picks in the 2018 NBA Drat and take back the Spurs first-rounder. While losing two picks seems a bit much, Leonard is worth such a deal.

If the Clippers can make a deal for Kawhi Leonard, they will have no choice but to re-sign Jordan. With Avery Bradley, Lou Williams, Leonard, and Jordan, the Clippers will have an explosive offensive team and will be better on the defensive side with Bradley and Leonard.
