NBA Rumors: DeMarcus Cousins Would Be A Great Fit For The New York Knicks

The New York Knicks could very well lose Enes Kanter if he decides to opt-out of his deal with the Knicks this offseason. However, all is not lost for the team if that rumor holds true. While Kanter has won over the MSG crowd with his hustle, rebounding, scoring, and grit, the Knicks can rest easy knowing DeMarcus Cousins is still searching for a home.

During his tenure with the Knicks, Kanter averaged 14.1 points and 11.0 rebounds while shooting 53.9 percent from the floor in 71 games. But, if the Knicks can somehow land Cousins, a frontcourt with Kristaps Porzingis and Boogie, automatically changes the seasons’ outlook for the Knicks.

DeMarcus Cousins is a rare talent. And if not for a season-ending injury he suffered right before the All-Star break last season, he would be back in a Pelicans’ uniform. However, nothing ever goes as planned. For years, the New York Knicks have tried to lure in a second star start to pair with Anthony and they figured Porzingis was well on his way. But with Melo gone, the Knicks may be looking for a new face and DeMarcus Cousins fits that description.

There is still the issue of Cousins’ injury and this is what most teams in the NBA are waiting to hear about before offering DeMarcus any type of deal. But here’s the catch for the Knicks– they can’t afford to wait. By doing so, this will allow the Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets, or even the Cleveland Cavaliers to make a pitch to Cousins. While the Knicks may not be on his list of teams, Cousins will have a mental note that the Knicks were one of the first to reach out. That still holds a little weight with players.

Before his injury, DeMarcus Cousins averaged 25.2 points and 12.9 rebounds while shooting 47 percent from the floor. With the Knicks seemingly settled at the PG position and with Tim Hardaway looking to regain his late season form, the Knicks, with Cousins could be a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference.
