NBA Rumors: Does Rajon Rondo Deal Mean Los Angeles Lakers Are Done With Lonzo Ball?

The Los Angeles Lakers continue to make moves upon moves during this free agency period. After signing LeBron James, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and JaVale McGee, the Lakers added another veteran to their mix of young and old. It was just announced that former New Orleans Pelicans PG Rajon Rondo just agreed to a contract. What does this mean for their starter Lonzo Ball?

Well, for starters, it means one or two things. First, Ball has been rumored to be in a package that could land the Lakers Kawhi Leonard. The second is that the Lakers are not sure Ball is the right one for them as the team is under new leadership on the court.

Here is where you have a good reason to believe that Leonard is coming to LA.

Is Rajon Rondo The New Starter For The Lakers?

Magic Johnson had to inform LeBron that they were indeed in heavy talks to land the best two-way player in the game. Despite what the Los Angeles Lakers are doing, their current team is not enough to beat the Golden State Warriors. Hell, they’re not strong enough to beat the Houston Rockets. The addition of Rajon Rondo gives the Lakers a veteran floor general who averaged 8.3 points, 8.2 assists, and 4.8 rebounds in 63 starts for the Pelicans in 2017. While not great numbers, Rondo will bring a championship resume to the table, one that Lonzo Ball does not have.

It’s hard to say that the Lakers have given up on Ball. However, Magic Johnson is from the old school where only one thing matters– winning. That’s the motto of the Los Angeles Lakers and Rajon Rondo is no one’s backup.

If the Lakers were to make that trade for Kawhi, that means their 2018 starting lineup could consist of James, Rondo, Caldwell-Pope, Leonard, and McGee. That is a veteran team there and one that will contend for a title. While the move could be viewed upon as a bit brash on the Lakers part, what Lonzo Ball and his father must rememberer is that this is still a business. The Los Angeles Lakers are here to win and not worry about feelings that may be hurt in the process.
