NBA Rumors: Karl-Anthony Towns Headed To Philadelphia 76ers?

The Philadelphia 76ers find themselves mourning their loss to the Boston Celtics in the second round of the playoffs but rejoicing for what the future holds. There are no more waiting periods of 2-3 seasons as they stockpile draft picks, the future is now. It all begins with this offseason and possibly with Karl-Anthony Towns.

LeBron James, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and a few others have been mentioned as possible players to join Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons next season. However, Towns could actually be the one the team grabs. Think about it, Towns is a Jersey kid with a huge love for Philly sports. Bringing him back home may be what’s best for him and the Sixers.

According to reports, Karl Anthony Towns is not happy with the direction the Minnesota Timberwolves are headed in. Maybe it’s Tom Thibodeau’s aggressive approach on the defensive end or the mantle passing to Jimmy Butler. But whatever it is, it seems that Towns may want out.

The issue the Philadelphia 76ers will face is what will Minnesota want in return? Towns is a special player who averaged 21.3 points and 12.4 rebounds while shooting 54.5 percent from the floor in the 2018 season. Those numbers lead many to believe that the Timberwolves will not let him go for peanuts.

While the Wolves will want the farm for his services, the Sixers can actually afford to pay the ransom. But will they? With the Sixers obtaining the 10th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, they can package that and possibly Dario Saric. Let’s also note that they have four-second rounders they can dispose of as well. But the bigger issue is can Karl-Anthony Towns and Joel Embiid coexist? Maybe, maybe not.

Both players are beast in the low post but Embiid is better on the defensive end while Towns is more polished on the offensive side of the floor. Playing them together could be as lethal as when the San Antonio Spurs had David Robinson and Tim Duncan.

For a move like this to happen, it will take the Sixers going all in. However, there is the issue of money and assets. As good as Towns is, many forget that he’s still playing under a rookie contract until 2019. For George or LeBron, the Sixers will just need to pony up funds. For Towns, they will have to pony up funds, players, and picks. Is Karl-Anthony Towns worth all that?
