NBA Rumors: The Cleveland Cavaliers Should Not Sign DeAndre Jordan This Summer
The Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in DeAndre Jordan of the Los Angeles Clippers. The issue has been what it will take to get him in a Cavs uniform. According to Bleacher Report, the Clippers were willing to make the deal happen at the trade deadline if the Cleveland Cavaliers would have thrown in the Brooklyn Nets’ 2018 pick. On the outside looking in, it seemed pretty simple. Jordan for Channing Frye, Tristan Thompson, and the Nets pick. But it’s never that simple.
But now, everything has changed for the Cleveland Cavaliers with their run to the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics. For a team that was hell-bent on upgrading, the Cavs have somehow managed to crawl their way to the top and possibly keep LeBron James. But still, they have holes that must be filled even if they win the championship this year. Their main one is defense, and that starts in the middle.
Kevin Love has manned the post for the Cavs but he’s no DeAndre Jordan. With the possibility of LeBron James leaving in 2018, they will try any and everything to get him to stay. And that may include adding more to their payroll.
Cleveland Cavaliers Cannot Afford DeAndre Jordan
Adding the defensive and rebounding robot in Jordan will allow the Cavs to swing Kevin Love back to his normal position and clog the middle with DeAndre Jordan. Great move for the Cavs until they check their luxury tax bill.
Going after Jordan will cost the Cavaliers possibly another $25 million+ to go along with James, Love’s, and Thompson’s salary. There is no way the Cavs should be willing to spend that type of money when they are in desperate need of a floor general and someone who can knock down the perimeter shot with consistency.
