The 2019-2020 NBA season is set to tip off in a couple of days. One of the teams to play on the opening night is the New Orleans Pelicans. They are set to play the defending NBA champions, Toronto Raptors up in Toronto. The Pelicans are a team many people are looking at as being competitive in the Eastern conference. When they do tip off in Toronto on October 22nd, they won’t have #1 pick, Zion Williamson on the court.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Zion Williamson is set to be out a number of weeks due to a knee injury he sustained during the preseason. It’s worth noting that the injury isn’t serve, but the Pelicans are treating this with “an abundance of caution.” They are highly confident that he will be able to jump past this hurdle. Williamson was the first pick in the 2019 NBA Draft after he won the Naismith College Player of the Year during his only season playing for the Duke Blue Devils. A few days ago, the Pelicans sent out a statement saying that Zion Williamson sustained the knee soreness and this is the reason why he didn’t play in the preseason finale against the New York Knicks. It’s worth noting that Williamson did stay in New Orleans to have doctors look at his knee.

It’s worth noting that Zion Williamson isn’t a stranger to knee injuries. He suffered an issue with his left knee while playing for Duke. The injury happened in late February and he was back in time for March Madness. The biggest question that needs to be answered with Zion’s latest knee injury is how long will he be out for. The Pelicans have a tough opening to their schedule as they play Toronto, Dallas, Houston, Golden State, Denver, and Brooklyn in the first weeks of the season.

His presence will be missed, but it will be interesting to see how the Pelicans do while he is out.
