Netflix’s Hulk Hogan Biopic Should Open Doors for Future Biopics
Netflix is joining in on the biopic fun. While there’s no timetable for the film, apparently the streaming giant is working on a biopic based on the life of Hulk Hogan starring Chris Hemsworth. As the then WWF’s first true superstar, Hogan was to the WWE what Captain America was for Marvel.
Hogan’s historic career took off after Wrestlemania III where it was billed he became the first man to bodyslam larger-than-life Andre the Giant. But just how deep will the biopic go into the life of the superstar? Obviously, it has to tackle his early career and becoming the face of the franchise, but will it strictly be wrestling related? Will it show his attempted run at Hollywood starring in films like Rocky III, No Holds Barred, and Suburban Commando?

If it sticks to strictly wrestling, it obviously has to tackle his jump from WWE to WCW, then back again. While chasing Hulkamania and the NWO, the biopic will have enough ammo for a full movie, but will it show his eventual removal from the WWE after his racist remarks? Can they balance his WWE career with his career run and demons while wrestling and will they show his post wrestling career that was way more controversial?
The WWE has been making movies for years and thriving in the world of autobiographical books that typically top the New York Times’ Best Seller’s List. If a Hulk Hogan based biography does well, surely there’s a market for more former WWE superstars to get their stories told.
If anything, the Attitude Era was loaded with stars who deserve the screen just as much as Hogan. Stars like Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson has both the family history in the sport and the down on his luck come-up that will captivate audiences. There’s a reason everyone in the world is a Rocky stan. He built an empire and has a love for the fans and people that have helped him along the way that is unmatched. How soon before his story is told?
WWE pairing with Netflix on biopics seems like a match made in heaven. Getting a star like Chris Hemsworth on board between his Marvel roles is the homerun they need. With any success, a Hulk Hogan biopic can open the door to even spin-offs and cameos in future films. The biopic is in the planning stage and should see a release sometime over the next year.
