New Orleans Saints: Teddy Bridgewater Deserves Starting Nod Against Dallas Cowboys
The Drew Brees era is not over in New Orleans. However, for the next several weeks, there is a new sheriff in town, or maybe even two. After his win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3, Teddy Bridgewater deserves another chance to run the offense against the Dallas Cowboys.
The issue here is that with Sean Payton, you never know. With Brees always available, he knew what to expect against any defense. Now, Payton may be forced to take it game-by-game with his backups. And while that may hit Saint’s fans hard, the truth is, that’s not a bad idea.
But with the way Bridgewater controlled the offense Sunday, the Saints will need a veteran presence against the undefeated Cowboys.
Sunday, Teddy Bridgewaters passed for 177 yards and 2 touchdowns. While he didn’t put up Brees-like numbers, he did just enough for the Saints to take command of the NFC South. Now, if Bridgewater struggles against the Cowboys Sunday, then maybe Payton will make a switch mid-game to change the momentum.
Here is what Bridgewater had to say after the win;
“You never want to take the game for granted,” Bridgewater said. “I think last year what happened, we had the playoff spot locked up. To come into a game like today that has more meaning was one of those games where your emotions are high because the game has meaning and you haven’t experienced this in a long time.”
Right now, the Saints best bet is to roll with the veteran if they wish to keep pace in the NFC until Brees returns.
