New York Giants: Eli Manning is planning on retiring after 16 seasons
The New York Giants just completed their 95th season as a member of the National Football League. Over those 95 years, there have been several people who have been the Quarterback of this team. Some of them include Kerry Collins, Phil Simms, Kurt Warner, and many others. However, none of them accomplished or had the career that Eli Manning did.
I say did because it was announced that Eli Manning will be retiring. He decided to call it a career after playing in the NFL for 16 seasons. Right off the back, the fact that he played 16 seasons is remarkable. According to Chron, the average career for an NFL quarterback is three years. However, if you are a quarterback who is always playing in the Pro Bowl, then it gets bumped up to 12. It’s worth mentioning that among active quarterbacks right now in the NFL, only Tom Brady (drafted 2000) and Drew Brees (drafted 2001) have played longer and are still active today. Yes, Ben Rothenburger and Phillip Rivers still playing, but they started when Eli Manning did.
Another thing we need to look at with the career of Eli Manning is the two Super Bowl and two Super Bowl MVPs that he has won. When we look at the history of the National Football League, there’s only been five quarterbacks to win both multiple Super Bowls and win the Super Bowl MVP. They include Bart Starr, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana, Tom Brady, and Eli Manning.
He will go down as one of the game’s best quarterbacks. In addition, he will go down as the greatest quarterback to play for the New York Giants. Except for Ben McAdoo benching him in a game during the 2017 season, he started every game. With how rough the game of football is, he was able to play through it.
As a Giants fan, Eli Manning has provided some of the most memorable moments in my life. It will be inevitable that the next place you will call home in Canton, Ohio.
