New York Giants: Is Landon Collins Time in NY Coming to a Close?
The 2018 season for the New York Giants has been a disaster. As the team heads into the bye week, they hold a tie with the San Francisco 49ers for the worse record in football. While Pat Shumar and company thinks there is still a shot, there is no shot this team makes the playoffs. With the season being a dumpster fire and the trade deadline coming up, the Giants have been making some moves. In the last couple of days, they have moved guys like Eli Apple and Damon Harrison. Since it seems clear the Giants are getting rid of pieces, I could see them moving on from Landon Collins.
There are plenty of players who I could have put in this spot. Except for Saquon Barkley and Odell Beckham Jr, I would suspect everyone is available for a trade. I see Landon Collins being in this situation for several reasons. For starters, he may have been a high pick for the Giants; he hasn’t played like a high pick. It seems that the secondary hasn’t gotten better since he came to the team in 2015. This move also feels likely to happen because they moved Eli Apple a few weeks ago.
It would benefit the team to have two new guys in the secondary. The Giants can’t go get someone to win now as the team is not a win now team. If they pull this trade off, they need to get people to build that secondary up for the future. Many teams need secondary help, so the Giants can name their own price. I look for the Giants to be one of the more active teams before the deadline. However, they will be active to help the future of the team and not the team in the present.
