New York Giants: Joe Judge set to become the next head coach
The New York Giants were one of several teams searching for a new head coach in 2020. They fired Pat Shumar after going 9-23 in two seasons. For a while, it seemed that the Giants were going to be going for former Baylor head coach Matt Rhule. However, he met with the Carolina Panthers yesterday and end up signing a six-year $70 million dollar deal. Reports did come out that he called the Giants and asked if they would match the deal. They ended up declining.
With Ron Rivera in Washington, Mike McCarthy in Dallas, and Matt Rhule in Carolina; the Giants were in a difficult spot. In what seems like an out of left field move, the Giants would end up hiring Joe Judge. He is the youngest of the seven known candidates that were linked to the Giants job. The bright spot with him is he worked under Nick Saban in Alabama and Bill Belichick in New England. So he knows what it takes to win and that is something that the previous two Giants coaches didn’t have. However, Joe Judge doesn’t have any head coaching experience.
However, there are reports out there that the Giants are looking at former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garett as the next OC. If Garett is the one to take the job, he will end up being responsible for both the offense and helping Judge. As a Giants fan, I’m open to the move. But I’m not the biggest fan of the move. Since Tom Coughlin left the Giants in 2015, the Giants have had two people with zero head coaching experience and one that was not good at all in Pat Shumar.
The only thing that I could think of with this move is that maybe the fact that he worked under Nick Saban and Bill Belichick that it will rub off on Joe Judge.
