New York Giants: Offseason Panic Mode 2021 Edition
As a New York Giants fan, it has to be hard to go full panic mode. With a team that has been taking misstep after misstep, any bit of improvement is a reason to be optimistic. The Giants seemed to botch the post-Tom Coughlin era. Ever since then, the team seems to be cured. Despite playing above their talent level this year, there’s plenty of reasons for the Giants to be in panic mode this offseason.
The Daniel Jones Error
Jones really is the next Eli Manning. When he’s good he’s great, but when he’s bad he’s dog crap. There is no in-between. Drafted because he had a lot of the same skill sets as Manning, the Giants were hoping that the transition would be smooth. Too bad he struggles with consistency and decision making same as Eli. The biggest problem with Daniel Jones is he’ll never elevate the Giants to the next level. He might win them games but they won’t be postseason games.
Thinned out Talent Pool
It’s not all Daniel Jones’ fault. The Giants have hit a roadblock with wide receivers to bail out Jones on bad days. Ever since they traded away OBJr they’ve had flash receivers who do well but again can’t stay consistent. When they are consistent, they can’t stay healthy. Just one wide receiver on their offense played all 16 games, Darius Slayton who lead the team in receiving yards with 751.

Where’s the Endzone?
If the New York Giants only had one thing to focus on this offseason, it’s finding the end zone. The teams leading scorer, not including their kicker, had just six touchdowns. Their receivers didn’t set the bar very high. The unit themselves scored a total of 12. You read that right, 12. For comparison, Devante Adams had 18 this year himself. 4 receivers this year had more touchdown receptions than the entire Giants offense.
Can’t Blame The Run
You can tamper down some of the panic mode if you observe losing Saquon Barkley was a setback. Losing your star running back for the season presents a challenge, one the Giants couldn’t step up to. While he didn’t have the production that Barkley had, plenty of times this season Wayne Gallman showed enough spark to keep the offense moving forward. He led the team with six touchdowns. Probably will be a great compliment to Barkley if he comes back healthy.
The New York Football Giants stunk up the 2020 season, but still almost made it to the playoffs. However, that bad of an offense isn’t going to be fixed in just a season. Defense might win championships but only if your offense can get points on the board. Fans have to be worried if they expect to compete in 2021 in a league where the contenders put up points at will. Despite showing improvements, the New York Giants are far away from getting out of the bottom.
