New York Giants: Saquon Barkley was the right move

On Thursday night, the New York Giants took Penn State Running Back Saquon Barkley with the 2nd pick. I have been one of the proponents of the Giants going after a quarterback. I felt that since Eli Manning is not the same player he was and we don’t know much about Davis Webb, why not take someone like a Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen. It’s worth noting that when the Giants were picking, all the big Qb’s except for Baker Mayfield were on the board. However, since the Giants took Barkley, it shows the fanbase that they still have faith in Eli Manning and they are working on Davis Webb.

Barkley was touted in college as a playmaker. Other than Odell Beckham Jr, there really aren’t many playmakers on this team. He will be a terrific addition to this team and give Eli Manning someone who can take the ball from him and someone he can throw to. Barkley’s former coach at Penn State James Franklin was saying that Barkley would practice with the wide receivers. In addition, people were saying that he is a person who could be wearing the gold jacket in Canton. Personally, I think that is a bit too far. Why don’t we let the kid play on the field before we start saying if he is the next Walter Payton?

While he is a playmaker and the right choice for the New York Giants, they still need to build the offensive line to create holes for him to run. He was getting compared to Ezekiel Elliott of the Dallas Cowboys. The problem with that comparison is that the Cowboys line is one of the best ones in the NFL. It is basically a brick wall that allows him to make runs. I am hoping the Giants can create a line that is like the Cowboys and Saquon Barkley will become great.
