New York Giants: The Daniel Jones Era has begun
The New York Giants are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Buffalo Bills. As they turn their attention to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, there will be a new face under center. After the Buffalo game, head coach Pat Shumar made it seem that Eli Manning was going to continue to be the starting quarterback. However, we would find out that they weren’t sure if they wanted to start Eli Manning or go with Daniel Jones. It became official on Tuesday that the New York Giants will start Daniel Jones in their week 3 showdown with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
This isn’t the first time that the Giants decided to sit Eli Manning. During the 2017 season, then head coach Ben McAdoo benched Eli Manning in favor of Geno Smith. This was a head scratching moment because the feeling was Eli Manning would get benched for Davis Webb. The move was made right before they played the Oakland Raiders. The Giants ended up losing that game by a score of 24-17. Eli Manning was renamed the starter the week after. I don’t foresee the same thing with this move. It’s clear that they feel that Daniel Jones is the future of the team, why not see what you have with him.
The expectations weren’t that high for the New York Giants this season. At some point, I’d figure we’d see Daniel Jones get some reps. However, I figure that wouldn’t be towards the end of the season. But the way this season has been going, it could be a long season. The other benefit of going with Daniel Jones is he has nothing to lose. If it doesn’t work out, you can always go back to Eli Manning later on in the season. I highly doubt that will happen, but it’s an option to look into.
The New York Giants are set to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday as the Daniel Jones Era is set to begin.
