New York Giants: Three bold predictions for the 2018 season
We are a few months away from the 2018 NFL season. For the New York Giants, there is a ton of hope for this team. For starters, they are trying to get past the horror that was the 2017 season which saw both GM Jerry Reese and Head Coach Ben McAdoo get fired. During the off-season, they would end up hiring Dave Gettleman from the Carolina Panthers. He became the organization’s 5th General Manager. Gettleman would end up bringing in Minnesota Vikings Offensive Coordinator Pat Shurmur to become the organization’s 20th head coach. During the offseason, the Giants would also end up bringing in guys like Nate Solder (New England Patriots), Jonathan Stewart (Carolina Panthers), and others to help fill a large number of holes.
Here are my three bold predictions for the New York Giants:
1) Saquon Barkley will compete for the Rookie of the Year – Back in April, there were many people (including me) who through the Giants were taking a QB with the 2nd pick. They would end up swerving everyone when it was announced that the Giants were taking Saquon Barkley with the 2nd pick. The Giants haven’t had a threat behind Eli Manning since Tiki Barber. Barkley is explosive enough that it gives Eli Manning a threat to hand off to or throw to. I could see in the range of 1,000 to 1,5000 yards and at least 15 touchdowns.
2) The Giants will rank in the top 5 in offensive categories – The Giants are poised to have an explosive offense this season. It will be tough for teams to defend Barkley and a healthy Odell Beckham. It will take pressure off the other guys.
3) The Giants defense will return to the glory days – The addition of Alec Ogletree boosts the defense a lot. It will make it interesting to see how it all plays out. However, there is one stipulation that the team needs to look at. As long as there are no major injuries and everyone is on the same page, then there is nothing to truly worry about.
The New York Giants are in a position that if everything clicks and they get past last season, then the 2018 season will be fun for the Giants.
