New York Giants: Three Reasons They can Still Make the Playoffs
The 2018 NFL season has not begun how most New York Giants fans were hoping. They are 0-2 and are off to a rather slow start. In the last two games, they have been outscored 40-28. It seems that the Giants are still working out the kinks, but you don’t want that to happen too long are you are going to have a tough time. Maybe because I am a fan or maybe I’m not too quick to jump off the cliff yet, I feel this team can still turn it around and make it to the playoffs.
Here are three reasons why there will be playoff football at MetLife Stadium for the Giants
1) The Giants have been in this situation before
Starting the season off 0-2 is nothing new for Big Blue. Since 2007, they have started the season off 0-2 a total of four times. When they started off 0-2 in 2007, they would end up winning the Super Bowl. In 2013, 2014,2015; they also started off 0-2 and would end up missing the playoffs. If the Giants can go either 3-3 or 4-2 before their bye, they would be in good shape. If you go based on the records coming out of week 2, the New York Giants only game against a winning team is against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and that won’t be until after the bye.
2) Saquon Barkley needs more attempts at the ball
In the first two weeks, we have seen two different versions of Barkley. In week 1, he was showing why the Giants took him. However, in week 2 people were saying the New York Giants made a mistake. As he gets more adjusted to the NFL, he will become more dangerous. In week 2, he had 14 catches. Which is good. However, you aren’t going to win doing that.
3) The Offensive line needs to wake up
During the offseason, General Manager Dave Gettleman made it a mission to upgrade the front line. While he did, it doesn’t seem to be working well. If the New York Giants want to (I feel they will) compete within the NFC, the guys protecting Eli Manning will need to start doing their job. If they start doing their job and Barkley becomes more adjusted, I feel sorry for the rest of the NFC.
