New York Islanders: The team returns to rock the barn once again

It has been known that the New York Islanders are moving out of the Barclay’s Center. They are moving to a new arena in Elmont, Long Island in 2021. However, it was made official today that the Islanders will be doing something else. Since the relationship between the Islanders and the Barclay’s Center become toxic, the fans were hoping that they would return home to the Nassau Coliseum. They called the Coliseum home from 1972 until 2015.

At the press conference on Monday, the Isles had their wishes granted. New York governor Andrew Cuomo would announce that the Islanders would play selected games at the Coliseum over the next three seasons. Thus, the announcement included a total sixty games. The reason it is not a full move to the new place is very simple. There aren’t enough seats and it falls under the requirement for the NHL. While the schedule for next season isn’t out yet, I have a good guess to what games will be at the Nassau Coliseum. I gather we will see the Devils and Rangers for sure. You can also add the Vegas Knights, Boston Bruins, Washington Capitals, and Pittsburgh Penguins. I think the other six will be up in the air.

In all honesty, the New York Islanders playing games at the Coliseum is not a shocker. Due to Elmont still taking three more seasons and the Barclay’s Center is trying to do anything to not have them play there. The end result was going to be the Coliseum. As far as Elmont, I have said it before and I will say it again that it is the best of both worlds. They can keep the Brooklyn fans and bring back the Island fans who they lost. I also suspect that they won’t have a problem selling out. The Islanders have one of the more loyal fan bases in all of hockey.
