New York Jets: The Adam Gase hiring is a head scratcher
After searching for a new head coach, the New York Jets have finally made their decision. No, it wasn’t Mike McCarthy. Instead, the New York Jets would end up hiring former Miami Dolphins head coach, Adam Gase. He was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2016-2018. In those two seasons, he would end up going 23-25 and an 0-1 playoff record. Prior to that, he was the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos. When the news broke that the Jets hired him, Jets fans started an uproar. They aren’t wrong.
I’ll start off with one of the few positives on bringing on Adam Gase. He is an offensive minded coach. The coaches who were here beforehand were mainly defensive minded coaches. There were some positives with those, but most of the time it flopped. He has more negatives that are going to make this interesting. One of the first things to look at is that he is a quarterback whisper. If we look at the previous quarterbacks that have worked with Adam Gase, it includes Jon Kitna, Shaun Hill, Peyton Manning, Jay Cutler, and Ryan Tannehill. By the time Peyton Manning worked with Adam Gase in Denver, he was an established quarterback. He also calls his own plays. Going off stats, the others have not done anything.
I don’t get why the Jets made this move. They could have had someone who is proven in their pocket. This move just furthers the theory, same old Jets. Joe Bengino of WFAN’s Joe and Evan made the comment. He said, “He suspects Gase will be here for 3-4 years at best.” It will be very interesting to see how it all plays out. Most Jets fans want to be wrong about Adam Gase, but as the past shows, they have nothing to believe that will truly be the case.
