New York Jets Aren’t Finished Without Aaron Rodgers
As far as the NFL is concerned, it wasn’t a good week to be a team from New York. The New York Giants got shut out by a division rival by 40 points. The New York Jets lost the first real elite quarterback they’ve had in a while. Then the Buffalo Bills again lost to that same Jets team for a divisional loss. While there’s a good chance the Bills and Giants bounce back, after losing Aaron Rodgers, plenty are willing to write the Jets off.
Rodgers might be done for the year but the Jets will go on. Will Zach Wilson be enough to keep up with the rest of the division? In the end, does it matter? Let’s be honest, there are plenty of available options in free agency. Even if Zach Wilson isn’t the guy, there are 2 quarterbacks with Super Bowl experience in free agency. No, not a failed experiment that was Joe Flacco. Both Matt Ryan and Nick Foles are available and at this point in their career wouldn’t cost too much to be a security blanket. Heck, even Carson Wentz had promise before becoming a journeyman QB after his injury, so the Jets have options.

But that’s not the point. Speaking of Nick Foles, Carson Wentz, and Matt Ryan should hit the nail on the head. Nick Foles has bounced around from team to team but still has a Super Bowl ring with the Philadelphia Eagles. Carson Wentz hasn’t been the same since his time with Philly but there was still something there. Matt Ryan had a career looking like an elite quarterback season after season. What is the one thing each of these QBs has in common? They all got it done with elite talent around them and doing just enough to not lose games.
Zach Wilson doesn’t have to go out and be a stud and the New York Jets don’t have to go out and break bank to find Aaron Rodgers’ placeholder. The only thing that needs to happen for the New York Jets to be successful is that Zach Wilson needs to take care of the football and not lose games. Not be elite. Not pad his stats. Just take care of the football.
Monday night proved that they can win without Rodgers. Wilson wasn’t at his best and neither were the Jets. However, the young QB made enough good throws to keep them in the game. If the Jets can slow down the game and the defense can compensate for any mistakes Zach Wilson could make they still have enough talent to win football games. Everyone wants an elite quarterback when a guy who takes care of the football and can move the chains can get it done just without all the flash.
