New York Jets: Carson Wentz Should Be On Their Radar

Former Commanders QB and potential New York Jets QB Carson Wentz

So far, no one has figured out how to get Carson Wentz back to his pre-injury success. Also, no one has figured out how to get the New York Jets a capable quarterback to lead the team. This could and should be a match made in heaven. Neither Mike White nor Joe Flacco has offered up much competition for Zach Wilson. They’ve been backups at best and while both had some high moments, neither pushed the starting job.

Now the New York Jets are in a hold pattern. They don’t know what to do with Zach Wilson and they don’t want to waste the investment in their current talent. So why not kick the tires on a struggling quarterback who at one time looked to have one of the brightest futures? Yes, there has been plenty of talk of Aaron Rodgers or Derek Carr, myself included. However, Now that the Washington Commanders have cut Wentz, there’s a good chance he can be had for a team-friendly price on a 1-2 year deal.

More New York Jets: Are The Jets Really Committed to Zach Wilson?

Will Wentz ever return to his rookie form? Probably not. Luckily for the Jets, they don’t need him to. They just need a young quarterback who puts pressure on Zach Wilson to pull his head out of his backside. He needs to be looking over his shoulder. He needs to be humbled. Right now, he’s got this arrogance about him because he knows it’s his team and thus knows he has a future in the NFL. If he’s the type of guy who isn’t worried about his future in the NFL, then the Jets should recognize that and move on. Since there are still talks of them keeping him in-house, he needs the pressure of not being handed the job by default.

Aaron Rodgers is going to command elite quarterback money. Derek Carr is going to bring in starting quarterback money. After multiple stops and multiple failures, Carson Wents might take a deal for backup money. The Jets have invested heavily in drafting good young talent. They still have the ability to invest a little more. Why piss away all that potential for a kid who just doesn’t see the bigger picture? After the loss last season where he refused to take accountability, he needs to learn he can be just as much of a problem as anyone else. He needs to know he is just as replaceable as anyone else. If he’s not the type to worry about that and go out and give his best, then the Jets would be better off struggling with Wentz.
