New York Jets: Did They Do Enough In The Offseason To Keep Up

New York Jets QB Zach Wilson

The New York Jets finished last in the 2021-2022 season. When it comes to the offseason so far, the rest of the AFC seems to be making big splashes, but did the Jets do enough to keep up with their division rivals?

The Miami Dolphins may have made the biggest splash in free agency this offseason. With the trade for Tyreek Hill, they’ll have one of the more dynamic weapons in the division. The Buffalo Bills went out of their way to keep their explosive weapon, Stefon Diggs, in-house for years to come as well. Then the New England Patriots made a move for Dolphins WR Devante Parker. If he stays healthy, he can be a huge asset for the Pats. The Jets on the other hand made some offseason moves that will improve the team, but will they add the explosiveness the rest of the division will enjoy.

So far, the New York Jets have added some pieces on offense but time will tell whether or not it pays off in the same fashion. When it comes to defense, the Bills went ahead and signed two-time Super Bowl champ Von Miller to a long-term deal. The Miami Dolphins locked up the majority of their defense from last season as well as locking up Xavien Howard for the long term. The Pats have always been a dominant force on defense under Belichick. So do the moves the Jets made stack up?

The truth of the matter is, Jets fans have nothing to worry about. While they may not have come into free agency guns blazing,  they have made moves that bettered the team. The free agents they have brought in are exactly what the team needs as they look to go into this year’s NFL Draft. With nine picks in the 2022 draft, five of which are in the first three rounds. While the big moves might not be on display now, as long as they play it smart, their playmakers will come. Not only do they have the 4th pick overall, they also have the 10th. Two top-10 talents on either side of the ball will make an instant change to the team if they get it right. The other four will be in rounds 4 & 5, typically where teams find a hidden gem or two.

No, the New York Jets didn’t make a ton of noise compared to the rest of the division this offseason. Luckily for fans, their contributions can still make a splash before the season starts.
