New York Jets: Darrelle Revis was added to the list of Jets players released

After the New York Jets had a mediocre 2016 season where they went 5-11, it seems that the Jets are on a mission to bounce back in 2017. As free agency is not set to begin until March 9th, there are several Jets who will be looking for new homes in 2017. In the last few weeks, the Jets have released quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, kicker Nick Folk, offensive tackle Breno Giacomini, center Nick Mangold, and you can now add cornerback Darelle Revis to that list.

This shouldn’t be an overall shocker to Jets fans or NFL fans as Revis wasn’t the same player from his first run with the team. However, the idea of him being released became more apparent after his arrest a few weeks ago in Pittsburgh when he knocked out two people. From that point, all the talk was about when the Jets were going to release him. It should be noted that by the Jets releasing Revis, in addition to the others they have released, they have created approximately $26.3 million in salary cap room, which if they can use the right way could prove to help them big time in the 2017 season.

As far what the future could be for Revis, I think a lot of that will be determined once this investigation concludes. If he is not suspended by the NFL, then one spot for him could possible be a reunion with the Patriots. It is well-known that Bill Belichick does not like the New York Jets and this could add to that soap opera. Although Revis is getting older he still has very good ball skills and could be a weapon for any defensive coordinator. This soap opera almost writes itself because, in the end, this could make the Jets pay Revis to play on the Patriots.

In regards to where the New York Jets go from here for a cornerback that is up in the air. They could look in free agency or the NFL draft in April. Unfortunately, the Jets don’t have a lot of help in this position that is already on the roster. So it will surely be interesting to see what the Jets do as theĀ free agency period is set to begin on March 9th.
