NFL Draft: The New York Jets should not take a Quarterback in the first round

As we are fully entrenched in the NFL off-season, all the teams are focusing their attention on the NFL Draft happening at the end of April. While there is no indication of who is going first to the Cleveland Browns, it seems that there happen to be a few players who have sparked the interest of the New York Jets, who have the sixth pick like and they all play the quarterback position; Deshaun Watson (Clemson), DeShone Kizer (Notre Dame), Mitch Trubisky (North Carolina), and others.

I truly hope that the Jets front office does not take another quarterback in the early goings of the draft. I don’t feel they need another quarterback as they have two in Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg. I feel it would be foolish for them to take another QB and start building up one of the ones they have on the roster. I am not taking anything away from the three quarterbacks mentioned above, I just don’t feel they should be a Jet. The last time this franchise had a decent quarterback was Chad Pennington, Vinny Testaverde, and Joe Namath. It is not a good sign when in close to fifty years you had three decent quarterbacks.

I hope the Jets focus on one of the other needs early on in the draft and start to build a winning team. I wouldn’t mind them going for the offensive line like a Cam Robinson out of Alabama. This is not an uncommon thing to happen in the NFL as the Rams did it a few years back with Greg Robinson. If I were the Jets worry about bringing guys in to protect your quarterback and build one of the ones you have on your roster. As the Jets season was falling apart last year, the Jets didn’t want to play Hackenberg at all for unknown reasons. If the Jets do go for another QB, then it proves they have no faith in Petty or Hackenburg. Enough is enough with drafting quarterbacks and not giving them the proper amount of time.
