New York Jets: They Should Look to Strength the Defense at Deadline

While the 2018 NFL season has been a disaster for the New York Giants, there is still some hope for their neighbors. While the New York Jets are 3-5, there’s still some remote shot at the playoffs. They have two more games to go before the bye. In my opinion, the two games are winnable as they play the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills. If the Jets can make it to 5-5 by the bye week, then the second half for them could still have some juice. However, they do need help to get to 5-5. With the deadline coming up, the Jets should be active on the adding help to the defensive side of the ball.

Todd Bowels has been the head coach of the Jets since 2015. In the Bowels era, the Jets have gone from having the 4th best defense to the 28th worst defense in the NFL. When Bowels was hired, he was hired because he would have great defenses. However, the Jets have been having a defense that has gotten worse. Since Bowels job is more than likely on the line, I would figure they would be on the phone to try to get any defensive help they can get. At this point, the Jets should take anyone who can help the defense. It’s not a good image when your head coach’s specialty is defense and that has been the team’s biggest problem.

If I were the New York Jets, I’d focus on the linebackers and secondary. Your front line is ok and could use work, but it’s not a necessity. The linebackers and secondary could use more of the help. Your remaining teams like to throw the ball deep down the field. By not having someone decent in the secondary, teams like Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, and Houston Texans will light you up.
