New York Knicks: Early Playoff Loss Should Spark A Bright Future
No matter what happened in this series, New York Knicks fans have to be happy with how the season went. If you would’ve said at this time last year that the Knicks would be in the playoffs, you would’ve been laughed out of the building. Nothing against them, but they’ve been historically bad for some time now, but this season was different.
This season they hired Tom Thibodeau as their head coach and got to grinding away. Thibodeau knows how to turn a team around. He’s got a long way to go on the all-time wins list, but his .587 win % is comparable to some of the all-time greats so the Knicks might have a bright future ahead.

After missing the playoffs year after year, the Knicks and their fans can be disappointed they lost, but not in the season. If anything, this should be the fire lit under their backsides to push them to the next level. With the right moves this offseason, the New York Knicks can go from being a long-shot underdog to a fan favorite. This season proved that this Knicks team isn’t just going to roll over and be the same old Knicks team that is the joke of the NBA.
To have a coach that can consistently churn out winning seasons and push his teams to get to the playoffs should be enough to lure the right free agents in. With a winning season and a playoff appearance, New York won’t be considered as where careers go to die. This team brought some attention to the franchise and unless something catastrophic happens should be the reason more people keep an eye on the Knicks.
The only way the Knicks screw this up is by deciding to go backward. If they don’t make the right moves in free agency, if they don’t keep their core together, If they stray too far from the course it goes back to being ugly.
It’s very easy for the Knicks to become one-and-done, but with how bad they’ve been, it’s time to invest at all costs. If ownership doesn’t take this as a sign that there’s value in this team, then losing records are on the horizon again. This team needs to come out next season with passion and fire and show the rest of the NBA they weren’t a fluke.
