New York Knicks May Bench Michael Beasley Per Bleacher Report
Things for the New York Knicks are getting worse by the day. For a team many figured would be in the thick of the playoff chase, the Knicks have bottomed out. There were issues with the point guard position, then the Knicks lost Kristaps Porzingis to an injury, the Joakim Noah and Jeff Hornacek altercation took place and now, Michael Beasley has pretty much labeled his teammates selfish.
It was reported by Bleacher Report that Hornacek may bench Beasley after a lackluster defensive effort Friday night against the Los Angeles Clippers. According to lineup date, the Knicks with Beasley on the floor has surrendered 100. 5 points per fame per 100 possessions while surrendering just 105.6 while he’s not on the floor. Yes, five points will make a difference.
On the other side of the floor, Beasley has produced 12.5 points per game while shooting 49.4 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from beyond the arc. Even with those numbers, the Knicks are 24-39 and nine games behind the Miami Heat for the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference.
Is Beasley Really To Blame For Knicks’ Woes?
The issue now is, instead of accepting some of the blame, Beasley decided to go on the attack by asking “How many assists did we have tonight’? He would go on to talk about ball movement more:
I can’t be the only one trying to [figure] it out,” he said, per Berman. “We’ve got to figure it out together. We just don’t play the right way of basketball at times. And that’s frustrating
The Knicks are also struggling due to new players who weren’t there at the beginning of the season. With the New York Knicks struggling at point guard, they were forced to call up G-League player, Trey Burke then made a trade with the Denver Nuggets for Emmanuel Mudiay before the trade deadline. Beasley also stated that the team is still building chemistry and that may take a while.
