New York Knicks: Time to sit starters and lower ticket prices at Madison Square Garden
The New York Knicks should do what the Los Angles Lakers have done this year and the Brooklyn Nets did last year. Sit some of their starters and let the young guys play. However, the Knicks should take it a step further and do their loyal fans a favor and lower their ticket prices at Madison Square Garden for the remainder of the season.
The Knicks are currently 6.5 games out of the 8th spot with no signs of being able to make up any ground. There was a slight chance but when you let your cross-town rival Nets (13-54) beat you twice in your last 3 games, there is a problem. There is no way a team that features Carmelo Anthony, Derrick Rose, and Kristaps Porzingis should be struggling this late in the season or at all.
To say the Knicks have underachieved would be the biggest understatement of the season. They tried to trade their star player Melo and had Rose on the block as well. Their owner got into a little altercation then a public spat with Knicks legend Charles Oakley and Executive Phil Jackson is turning coach, Jeff Hornacek into his personal puppet with the Triangle offense.
The season is a wash and the best thing the Knicks can do is look out for their future. After this season, there is no way Anthony will keep that no-trade clause on the table this summer. He has to leave. The Knicks are a mess and no talented free agent would want to play for Jackson or James Dolan. Rest your guys and hope that players like Kyle O’Quinn, Lance Thomas, Chasson Randle and Willy Hernangomez can earn some quality experience.
The sad part is, Melo and the rest of the vets may welcome this idea. Nothing hurts more than to play for a team that’s not winning or doesn’t even want you there. The fans are the ones that will suffer through this as they have all season. So, what Dolan should do is reward them by dropping ticket prices for the remaining 7 home games in the season.
The Knicks still have the Pistons, Heat, Celtics, Bulls, Wizards, Raptors and 76ers left at Madison Square Garden this season. The cheapest price according to StubHub is starting at $50 for the Wizards. Take a page out of the Nets and start charging fans $20 per game. What else do you have to lose? The season is a wash and fans are getting discouraged. Thank them for their continued support by dropping prices.
