New York Mets: Carlos Beltran named the next manager

Carlos Beltran

On Friday afternoon, it was announced that the New York Mets have found their replacement for manager. If you recall, the Mets fired Mickey Callaway after a two year run with the team. It was announced that the next manager of the Mets will be Carlos Beltran. He was a player from 1998-2017. In that time, he played for the Kansas City Royals, Houston Astros, New York Mets, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, and Texas Rangers. He would also have another run with the Houston Astros to close out his career in 2017.

In his close to two decades of playing, he played in the All Star game nine times, won the World Series in 2017 with the Astros, won the AL Rookie of the Year in 1999, won the Gold Glove award on three occasions, won the Sliver Slugger award twice, and won the Roberto Clemente Award.  Originally I was skeptical on the move. This is not the first time the Mets have hired someone who has no managerial experience. With who is on this team, I figured the Mets would have hired someone who has some managerial experience. However, when I heard Terry Collins is being brought in as a bench coach, I liked the move.

Another reason i liked this move is Beltran has been learning after he finished playing. Since he stopped playing in 2017, he has had a few front office jobs. I just hope the Mets can keep a manager for more than a few years. Let’s look at a team who the Mets are always compared to, the New York Yankees. Since 1999, the Yankees have had three managers. Carlos Beltran is the Mets’ 7th manager since 1999.

Now that this step is done, the next one is who do they look at for free agency.
