New York Mets: They have been free falling into a second half of meaningless games
Back in the 1980’s, legendary rock singer Tom Petty came out with “Free Fallin.” When you think of that term, you can also think about the 2018 New York Mets. They began the season at 11-1 and everyone thought that this team was the real deal. They would end up wrapping up the month of April at a record of 17-9. Heading into May, they were looking good. It seemed that once the calendar turned to May, the Mets would start to free fall. They ended up finishing up the month of May at a record of 27-27.
We are about a third of the way through June and the Mets are 3-11. As of now, they stand at a record of 30-38. Since they ended April at 17-9, they have gone a record of 13-28. I am a Mets fan and I will say that they are beyond bad this season. They don’t have any hitting and the bullpen has been unreliable. It’s also worth mentioning that every team goes through skids. However, the Mets went through a bad skid as the Washington Nationals, Atlanta Braves, and Philadelphia Phillies got hot. If they want any shot of possibly making the playoffs, then they need to get the hitting in order and the bullpen needs to wake the hell up. However, I don’t see that happening.
I wouldn’t be overly shocked if Mickey Callaway isn’t brought back next season. For starters, the guy shows no emotions. I would love to see him become like Earl Weaver or Lou Pinella did back in the day. In essence, the New York Mets management needs to light a firecracker under the team’s ass. In addition, Sandy Alderson needs to not be brought back as well. He is running this team like Moneyball. You can not do that. This may go down as one of the worst seasons in the history of the Mets.
