New York Mets: It may be time to move on from Mickey Callaway

The 2018 season has been a shitshow for the New York Mets. They started off 11-1 and everyone thought that they would be fighting for a National League East Division Crown and a trip to the World Series. Since that start, the Mets have gone 21-45. At this point, they are hoping to stay better than the Miami Marlins who are 32-49. As of this writing, the Mets are 32-46.

Normally you tend to give a coach more than one season before you fire them. However, fans of the New York Mets have been clamoring for the Mets to move on from Mickey Callaway. We recently went through this in New York with the New York Giants. They hired Ben McAdoo for the 2017 season and ended up firing him before the end of the season. In regards of the Mets, it may help them to move on from Mickey Callaway. He is a great pitching coach but doesn’t have what it takes to be a manager. The writing also is on the wall about Mickey’s future was when Sandy Alderson announced that he was stepping aside to focus on his health. As we have learned over the years, when a team hires a new GM then you tend to see them bring in their own manager.

Whoever the Mets bring on as General Manager, there are a few possible guys who he should look at who would be an upgrade over Mickey Callaway. They can go to someone from the past in Bobby Valentine. He is up in Connecticut and has been a proven winner with the Mets, Another person who the Mets can look at is former Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington. I know he has had personal issues, but he is a strong infield coach. The infield is one area the Mets could get help in. Joe Girardi is another possibility.

In essence, the Mets need a manager who will light a fire under their asses. It doesn’t seem that Mickey Callaway has been able to do that and the New York Mets are heading for having second half games that are irrelative.
