MLB Winter Meetings: New York Mets look to add outfield help
At the 2019 MLB Winter Meetings, the New York Mets seem to be one of the more active teams. Prior to the Winter Meetings, they were able to acquire both Edwin Cruz and Robinson Cano from the Seattle Mariners. Over the last couple of days, they have been reports that the Mets were talking to guys like Corey Kluber and other big name players. Mets General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen has even gone on record to not ruling out a run at Bryce Harper.
While Cespedes has health problems, the Mets are looking at bringing in other help for the outfield. It seems that one of the people they are looking at is Baltimore Orioles center fielder, Adam Jones. According to Mike Puma, the two have had face to face meetings. If the Mets are able to make a deal, it would highly help the outfield. Adam Jones plays a decent outfield, will give you decent numbers, and can become the clubhouse leader. In addition, he will play a ton of games. In his 12 year career, he has not played less than 119 games in a season.
When you look at his time with the Seattle Mariners back in 2006-2008, he played a total of 73 games. That is why I didn’t count that in the 119 total. He may not provide flashy numbers, but they are numbers that are decent. When it comes to how he will fare against the teams in the National League, they are like his regular season numbers. They aren’t flashy, but they are decent.
You also have to look at the fact that you can plug him anywhere in the lineup and he will provide you numbers. However, I would feel better if they were to put him in front of someone who has power like Robinson Cano. It will create more opportunities. Again, this all depends on if he leaves Baltimore. .
