New York Mets: The addition of Dellin Betances helps bolster the bullpen
The New York Mets may not be making the big moves (i.e. Gerrit Cole to the Yankees, Strasburg to the Nationals, Ryu to the Blue Jays). However, they are making some moves that are giving fans a ton of hope. A few days after they came to terms with Rick Porcello and Michael Wacha, they added some bullpen help on Tuesday afternoon. According to SNY, the New York Mets have agreed to a one-year deal with former New York Yankee relieve pitcher Dellin Betances.
Dellin Betances has been playing for the New York Yankees since 2011. In the eight years that he has called the Bronx home, he has become one of the better relieve pitchers in baseball. It’s worth noting that when Betances is on target, he is tough to hit. He has a 21-22 record with a 2.36 ERA. He is also a four time All Star player. I mention about when he is on target because Betances has had several injury problems over the years. Also, Betances is someone who can go more than one inning. This could be very beneficial for the Mets. We saw on countless times where Jacob DeGrom, Noah Synderrgard, or Steven Matz couldn’t go deep into games.
Like I mentioned earlier, the Mets are making moves. They aren’t blockbuster moves, but they are making the attempt. While they certainly helped the bullpen, they need to add some more power to the lineup. But I like the Betances moves and also don’t like it. I like it because it helps the bullpen a lot. Now, Beltran can have someone be the bridge between the starting pitchers and Edwin Diaz. However, I don’t like it because he has two player options. For argument sake, let’s say that Betances makes a massive comeback in 2020. Because he has the two player options, he can leave the Mets .
