New York Mets: What is making this team so intriguing?
The New York Mets have become one of the most intriguing teams in the second half. Since the start of July, the Mets have gone 29-14. The last time they had a stellar second half was during the 2015 season. Between July and August of the 2015 season, the Mets went 33-20. When we look at that team, they had expectations, the 2019 Mets didn’t really have any.
One reason for this is the contributions. Normally, there’s one or two players that opposing teams find tough. This year’s Mets team is much different. players. I don’t know many people who would have thought that the leaders of this team would be Jeff McNeil, Pete Alonso, and Amed Rosario. Of course, these aren’t the only guys who should the credit to the Mets success. We should also look at guys like Michael Conforto, Wilson Ramos, and JD Davis. At this point, it seems that everyone in the lineup is doing damage. It makes it tough for opposing teams.
We should also look at the fact that the hitters are more patient at the plate. You don’t know how many times I have seen guys battle back from 0-1 or 0-2 count and push it a few more pitches. Also, they aren’t always playing the long ball. They just get timely hitting, which is what you want as you head to the final stretch of the season.
The pitching has also been there. It seems that since the move was made at pitching coach, it gave these guys a bolt that we didn’t see in the first half. While they are playing well, they are not out of clear yet. At this point, they need to focus on the Wild Card, the division would be nice. But, Atlanta is playing too good right now. The Mets need to worry about Washington and Chicago. It’s worth mentioning that after this current series with the Braves, they do face the Nationals, Phillies, and Nationals to begin September.
It will be an interesting final few weeks of the season. This season is becoming magical and who knows how it ends. But, let’s enjoy the ride now and Let’s Go Mets.
