New York Yankees: World Series Champions or Bust
After surviving the terrible winter, spring training is set to begin this week. Pitchers and catchers are reporting to camps this week with the rest of the team coming later on. Spring training games begin in a few weeks. One of the teams that will have high expectations is the New York Yankees. Despite having close to thirty players on the IL (MLB record), the team was able to go 103-59.
Under Aaron Boone, the Yankees have not had less than 100 wins in a season. Now that the spring training is going to start and the season within the next couple of weeks, I thought it would be time to look at the Yankees in 2020.
More Yankees: How The Yankees Benefited From Time Off
While the Yankees didn’t make a ton of moves during the offseason, they were able to make the biggest splash of the entire offseason. Back on December 11, 2019, it was announced that the Yankees had signed Astros ace Gerrit Cole to a nine-year deal, worth $324 million dollars.
This is the largest contract given to a pitcher in the history of baseball, it outdid Stephen Strasburg. With that type of contract, he is expected to have a monster season. As far as the guys who play behind him, it gets interesting. With how many injuries faced this team, you saw contributions from people you didn’t expect. Some of them included Luke Voit, DJ LeMahieu, Gary Sanchez, and many others.
Yankees fans should be hopeful that Stanton and Judge can play a whole season. In addition, you have Torres coming back as well. With all these pieces coming together, the Yankees are going to be tough to stop. With what happened in Boston and Houston this offseason, you would figure that will hang over both teams in 2020., Yankees fans should be upset if their team doesn’t win the World Series with how wide open the American League is.
