New York Yankees: They have a Major Problem to Fix in the Next Month

The New York Yankees are having a historical season. If they were in any division other than American League East, they would be in line for another division title. However, the Boston Red Sox don’t seem to ever lose and that makes it tough. However, the Yankees are having another problem as the Oakland A’s and Seattle Mariners are making it much smaller for the Yankees within the Wild Card race.

As we enter the last couple of weeks of the season, the New York Yankees are facing a major problem. It seems that the pitching staff that got them 74-44 is failing of late. For starters, Luis Severino has not been the same pitcher he was the first half of the season. In his last seven games, Severino has a 2-4 record with a 7.50 ERA. He is looked at as the ace of the team, but he hasn’t acted like the ace. While the starting pitchers have not been doing their job, the bullpen isn’t the same bullpen it was a few weeks ago. The biggest issue is Aroldis Chapman. He isn’t the same dominant pitcher who was around a month ago. In his last seven games, he is 0-0 with a 7.50 ERA. You don’t want your pitching staff to fall apart now.

One of the biggest reasons why Boston, Houston, Cleveland, Oakland, and Seattle are playing well now is because their pitching staffs are winning them games. They’re complimenting the offense. In the sense of the New York Yankees, they seem to be relying on the hitting more than the pitching. If the Yankees want to get past the wild-card game, they need to figure out this stuff now. In addition, Luis Severino and the rest of the pitching staff needs to get out of this funk. Being in this funk in April or May is fine, you don’t want to be in this funk in late August.
