NFL: 4 Quarterbacks Who Need To Stay Put

NFL Chargers QB Justin Herbert

It’s that time of year when “experts are all over television and social media throwing together bogus scenarios just to fire up the fan base into thinking their team will move on from (insert star player here). Just before the NFL draft is the worst time for fans because 98% of what you hear will be bogus clickbait. Yes, teams will be picking up the phone and listening to offers, it does not mean they’re actively shopping. The biggest lie right now is teams being “unsure” of QBs because they’ve yet to pick up 5th-year options. Out of all the rumors here’s where teams should stand on young players:

Justin Fields

This one is the biggest push this offseason. Will the Chicago Bears trade Justin Fields and select a new QB in the NFL draft this year? This has to be one of the strangest concepts I have ever heard. Fields was starting to come into his own for the Bears last season as one of the few bright spots. Why would the Chicago Bears move on from a QB who is growing in the league and start over? The NFL Draft has turned out too many busts at quarterback to gamble this way. If they’re looking to make moves, trading down should be their only option.

Tua Tagovailoa:

Is there anyone getting more doubt cast on them than Tua Tagovailoa? Each time they say he can’t, he goes out and does. The one thing that has held him back is his health. Other than that, every single thing that was a knock on Tua was put on display with him on the field. The Dolphins offense was taking the NFL by storm until the backups were in. The Miami Dolphins might not be sure about his health, but if he’s healthy, he is for sure the franchise QB for them.

Jalen Hurts:

Jalen Hurts was out for blood this season. I don’t know what it is about “experts” hating on these young quarterbacks but it needs to stop. This young man has been called a system QB and overanalyzed just as much as Tagovailoa. He’s kept his head down and just went out and did what he does best, excelled. He’s not out there lashing out, he’s not out there trying to step out of his role, and he’s not pushing back on the team. He just goes out and does his job and it almost landed the Eagles their second Super Bowl victory in 5 years. If he is a “system QB” he fits their system so why would they move on?

Justin Herbert:

Fields is one heck of a talent but he’s going through the same thing Phillip Rivers did with the Chargers. Injuries have been that team’s downfall for years.  Yes, Justin Fields hasn’t overcome yet, but who are the Chargers better off with? How much will they have to give up to find someone to replace him? Teams haven’t picked up options yet because it’s still early after the off-season. Negotiations have barely started with in-house players. Let teams work out their finances and Herbert will probably be locked up longer than just his 5th-year option.
