NFL: Andrew Luck announces his retirement after seven seasons
Following the Colts 27-17 loss to the Chicago Bears, the talk in the Colts locker room afterwards wasn’t about the game. The talk was the sudden retirement announcement of Colts QB, Andrew Luck. News broke Friday night that the seven year quaterback has decided to call it a career.
Andrew Luck was the first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. In his seven year career, he lead the Colts to four winning seasons and four playoff appearances. However, it’s worth mentioning that they never went farther than the conference championship games. In his career, he went 53-33. However, he has been hit with the injury bug for most of his career. When the news came out, there were fans saying that he was a bust through their social media accounts and sports radio. I don’t know how much of a bust he really is. Where it went wrong for Luck was how the Colts treated him. He never had a proper offensive line. He was sacked 174 times in his career. I have said for years, you can put any QB behind center and if they don’t have protection, they can’t do anything. In his first two seasons, he was sacked a total 82 times. I don’t care if you have Joe Montana, Case Keenum, or Kyler Murray; when you have no protection you can’t do anything.
As far as where the Colts can go from here, it won’t be easy. With a week left in the pre season, the Colts had a game plan for the season that would have involved Luck. They have Jacoby Brissett and Phillip Walker on the depth chart. Unfortunately, neither of them scream playoffs. All I’ll say is the Colts fans are going to be in for a long season.
