2019 has been a crazy year for Wide Receiver Antonio Brown. It began in early 2017, when Brown decided to live stream the Pittsburgh Steelers locker room celebration. This was to celebrate them beating the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Divisional. More of those types of actions led to the Pittsburgh Steelers moving on from him. In the early hours of March 10, it was announced that the Oakland Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers had a deal in place. According to Jason La Confora, the Raiders were going to send a third and fifth round pick to the Steelers and they were going to send Brown to the Raiders. It didn’t take long for Brown to bring his prima drama attitude to Oakland.

This offseason was interesting for the Raiders. After finishing up 4-12 last season, they decided to sign Jon Gruden to a 10 year, 100 million dollar deal. Between Gruden and owner Mark Davis, they were able to get Mike Mayock to come on board to become the General Manager. As OTA’s were set to begin, everything seemed to be in Oakland’s favor. However, Brown threw a fit because of his helmet. Reports would end up coming out that Brown would storm out of practice due to the helmet situation.  Basically, he had a specific kind of helment in Pittsburgh and wasn’t allowed to use it in Oakland. This would go on through OTA’s and Training Camp.

At one point, the Raiders placed Brown on the Non-Footbal injury list. When the helment situation didn’t get resolved, Brown was sort of set to move on. As the Raiders were set to kick off the 2019 season, reports started surfacing that Brown and General Manager Mike Mayock got into it. This lead the Raiders to suspending Brown. Not even a day after this happenend, head coach John Gruden told the media that Brown wasn’t suspended. In addition, he would be playing week 1.

While everything seemed to be in the clear, Brown would end up releasing a two minute video on his Youtube page. This video ended up having a private phone call between him and head coach Jon Gruden. You can hear in the video Gruden plea with is wide receiver to stop this crap and play football. It seemed that everything was getting normal within the Raiders organization. It’s worth noting that wouldn’t last too long.

Saturday morning would see an interesting twist in the story. While it seemed everything was good and Brown was going to play, he decided to go onto social media. Through his Instagram account, he would write the following, “ You are going to piss a lot of people off when you start what’s best for you.” In addition, there was a comment mentioned about the Raiders releasing him. They would end up honoring it, but not without one more move.

After this post was put up, the Raiders would end up fining him $200,000 and voided out his $29.125 million on his guarantees, according to Adam Schefter. Late Saturday night, the Raiders did in fact cut the former Pro-Bowl receiver. However, it wasn’t long that he was on the free agency market.

We found out that Antonio Brown would end up signing with the New England Patriots. According to ESPN, the deal is a one year deal worth up to $15 million According to Brown’s agent Drew Rosenhaus, there’s a nine million dollar signing bonus, $10 million guaranteed, and five million dollars worth in incentives. This signing only strengthens the Patriots wide receiver core.
