NFL: Best Matchups of Week 8 (2021)

NFL Chargers QB Justin Herbert

Week 8 of NFL action and luckily the games this week get a little better. What are the biggest matchups?

Green Bay Packers (6-1) vs Arizona Cardinals (7-0)

The Arizona Cardinals stand alone atop the NFL standings as the only team without a loss on their record. There are 4 teams in the NFC besides them to have only 1 loss, the Cowboys, Rams, Packers, and Bucs. Of those 5 teams, only the Cowboys have had their bye week. The Packers would be without Devante Adams. The Cardinals have had a few slip ups the past few weeks. Arizona needs to make this their “prove it” game while the Packers need to show they can win without their star receiver.

Pittsburgh Steelers (3-3) vs Cleveland Browns (4-3)

If divisional games are a true test of how your NFL season is going than this one ought to get interesting. The Steelers have been just as inconsistent as the Browns. Both teams have had banged up quarterbacks. Both teams need desperate wins to stay within striking distance of the division lead. If Cleveland loses they tie for the bottom of the division with the Steelers. If Pittsburgh loses, you might as well call this season a wrap.

San Francisco 49ers (2-4) vs Chicago Bears (3-4)

Two rookie quarterbacks head into the game but only one is a full-time starter. It seems for whatever reason, the 49ers can’t decided to put in and stick with Trey Lance. The matchup between Justin Fields and Trey Lance would be the lone interesting factor in this game as neither team looks like they’re ready to compete. Let the future of the NFL start today and play for some sense of pride.

New England Patriots (3-4) vs Los Angeles Chargers (4-2)

New England has stuck with some good teams this year and is coming off a dominant performance, although it was the Jets. The Chargers are coming off a bye and looking to stay within arms reach of the Raiders who lead the division. Second year QB Justin Herbert vs rookie QB Mac Jones. Can the Chargers prove they’re for real by defeating Bill Belichick’s strategies?

That’s it for this week. Four great matchups that ought to tell teams where they stand.
