NFL: Biggest Disappointments At The Halfway Point

Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks

Each year there’s a new list of teams who show up on the most disappointing list in the NFL. Some stay on the list, others filter in and out based on hope, then there are the occasional shockers. Now that the 2022 NFL season is over, here are the most disappointing teams so far:

Denver Broncos

Russell Wilson was supposed to be the guy who turned the Broncos back into winners. After all, he is the biggest name at quarterback since Peyton Manning. The former Super Bowl champion looks like he was a product of the system in Seattle as the Seahawks are shining while the Broncos look dead in the water. Can’t even blame it on the altitude since Denver is 1-3 on the road.

Las Vegas Raiders

Just last year the Raiders were 10-7 and playoff underdogs but they had plenty of fans on their bandwagon. This year the Raiders look nothing like that team from last year. There’s no direction, no hope, and no chance of turning it around in site. Josh McDaniels got a second chance at being a head coach but after a rocky start from a playoff contender, he might walk away with a much shorter leash next season.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Look, everyone knew that the Steelers were going to struggle without Ben Rothlisberger and transitioning to a new quarterback. However, Mike Tomlin has a history of success . Usually, when faced with adversity, the Steelers still find a way to be competitive. This year they don’t seem to be so fortunate. From Mitch Trubisky to the rookie Kenny Pickett have shared the blame but after this season, Pittsburgh might have to go back to the drawing board.

Arizona Cardinals

Remember when the Cardinals made Kyler Murray one of the highest-paid NFL quarterbacks? Their return on investment isn’t paying off. Despite the struggles of the LA Rams at 3-5, the Cardinals still sit at the bottom of the division at 3-6. If the Rams fell that hard from their Super Bowl run, surely a team rewarding their QB might be able to at least get out of the basement of the division, right? Yes, they’re without their star receiver, but if a QB gets paid like a top guy, he has to be able to win games with a shuffled roster. Players go down all the time with injuries, losing a weapon hurts but there shouldn’t be that big of a drop-off.

Detroit Lions

Isn’t hard to see the Detroit Lions on the list of disappointments? How can a team with low expectations disappoint? The Lions finally win their second game of the season and it came against the struggling Green Bay Packers, but there’s a problem. They could’ve won many more. They’re right in football games and can’t seem to walk away on top. Consistency is killing them, but they could’ve easily been an 7-9 win team if they could get just one more score out of the offense or one more stop on defense.
