NFL: Biggest Disappointments Through Week 9

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford of the NFL

With the NFL schedule fitting in an extra game each season, the halfway point has moved. Somewhere between week 8 and week 9 is the halfway point but now that we’re officially over the hump it’s time to explore the biggest disappointments this NFL season so far starting with:

The Miami Dolphins:

It used to be all noise that the Miami Dolphins hadn’t beaten a team over .500 all season long. Still, while it is hard to put a team and 6-3 as a disappointment, there’s some truth there. The Dolphins haven’t proved they can play to the level of NFL playoff teams. They were blown out in the first half against the Kansas City Chiefs, they came rumbling back in the second half. Then they blew their chance to tie the game and potentially send it to overtime. At times the Dolphins seem too confident as if they’ll get away with anything. The only problem is that good teams know how to keep up. Given their remaining schedule, if they don’t find ways to get it done against tough teams, there’s a good chance they miss out on a playoff spot.

The Green Bay Packers:

I bet the Packers wish they figured out how to keep Aaron Rodgers happy right about now. At 3-5 Green Bay hasn’t looked like the franchise has answers. Jordan Love came out looking like he was ready to go after week 1 just as he came out looking like a stud mid-game against the Los Angeles Rams. Unfortunately for the Pack, he’s been a mixed bag in between. The Packers are in third in their division but breaking even should be the bar this season.

The Dallas Cowboys:

At 5-2 Dallas needed a strong win to keep up with the 7-1 Eagles. Unfortunately, it never came. While everyone uses Dak Prescott as the scapegoat for the team’s failure, Dak threw for almost 400 yards and 3 TDs. The Cowboys held Jalen Hurts to just over 200 passing yards. They kept the Eagles run game in check. No wide receiver went off for the Eagles. At the end of the day, Dallas was just outplayed and more than likely, outcoached.

The Los Angeles Rams

The Rams skyrocketed to the top of the NFL and fell off just as quickly. Say what you will about their level of talent and their inability to stay healthy. However, maybe the lack of first-round picks is finally catching up with the Rams. Maybe if they’d had a first-round pick in the last seven drafts their depth and young talent wouldn’t be as depleted. Do they really think Cooper Kupp and Aaron Danold were going to carry this team to a Super Bowl singlehandedly? Matthew Stafford must have stayed up past midnight and turned back into a pumpkin looking like some of his worst games in Detroit. The NFL caught up with Sean McVay real quick and the Rams haven’t recovered.

That’s it, that’s the list. Who will be the NFL’s most disappointing team by the end of the season? Stay tuned.
