NFL: Who should be Coach of the Year?
With the 2018 NFL season wrapped up, the playoffs are now upon us. In addition to the playoffs starting soon, we are close to finding out the award winners. On the night before the Super Bowl, we will know who the MVP, Offense Rookie of the Year, and others was. When it comes to the coach of the year, the award should come down to either John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens or Frank Reich of the Indianapolis Colts.
While these two teams are coming into the playoffs hot, they both had similar starts. The Ravens started 4-5. There would be talk that the team would be moving on from John Harbaugh because there was a fear they wouldn’t make the playoffs. Then they decided to bench Joe Flacco and give Lamar Jackson a shot at quarterback. He started winning games for the Ravens that made it clear that Flacco was done. Since they made the move to go with Jackson, they would end up going 6-1 to wrap up the season. This would end up earning the Ravens another AFC North belt. With how they are playing, they can’t be taken lightly by any team in the playoff hunt.
On the other hand, the Indianapolis Colts are another team that went from having a terrible 2018 season to a memorable season. Unlike the Ravens, the Colts would end up starting 1-5. The lone win came in Week 2 as they would defeat the Washington Redskins. Once you go 1-5, your chances of making the playoffs seem impossible. Then something would click and they would begin rattling off the victories. Over the next several weeks, they would end up going 8-1. Their only loss came to Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 13.
Both teams had remarkable seasons. Somehow, through will and determination, they are both going to be in the playoffs. While the credit should go to the players who are on the field every week, credit needs to go to the coaches. They took ownership of the locker room, got the players to buy into their ways, and the rest spoke on the field. In all honesty, the Colts and Ravens are two of the more dangerous teams heading into the playoffs.
