NFL: Is the Next Quarterback Wave Already Here?
When it comes to the NFL, it seems like there’s an ever-revolving door at quarterback. Teams can’t seem to find their franchise quarterback, and very few have their standouts. Not too long ago there was a boom at quarterback but those young stars could soon be forgotten.
It wasn’t too long ago when the NFL was buzzing about Dak Prescott, Lamar Jackson, Jimmy Garopollo, Carson Wentz, or Jared Goff as the next big thing. Not to mention Patrick Mahomes has already won himself a Super Bowl and Josh Allen has turned the Buffalo Bills into contenders.

But that was yesterday’s news. All of a sudden there’s yet another wave of quarterbacks on the horizon that could make people forget that class of quarterback if they don’t step their game up. Last season alone we saw what Justin Herbert could do to sling a football. Before he got hurt, Joe Burrow was in the mix for rookie of the year. Even Tua Tagovailoa showed a little spark and won football games. Jalen Hurts even took a struggling Philly team and gave them hope. So what’s stopping the next quarterback boom?
That doesn’t even include this year’s potential stars. There’s a good chance Trevor Lawrence can continue his winning ways in Jacksonville. Mac Jones is prepped to have all the support he needs out of a future Hall of Fame coach. Justin Fields is entering a division that’s up for grabs is Aaron Rodgers plays hardball. Trey Lance is moving in on a football team that’s not far removed from a Super Bowl run.
Statistically, not too many quarterbacks succeed in the NFL and go on to become championship-caliber players. There have been more busts out of the NFL Draft than guys who turned teams around. But the future is bright in the NFL without even talking about the Baker Mayfields who is the only quarterback to turn around the Browns’ fate.
It’s hard to imagine each of those quarterbacks having tremendous success, but it’s not out of the question. There’s a lot of young talent in today’s NFL and if these veterans don’t step up and get their teams a championship, some of them could become yesterday’s news.
