NFL: Is The Patriots Dynasty over after they lost to the Titans?
The New England Patriots have been eliminated from the playoffs. To close out night 1 of the 2020 NFL Playoffs, the Tennessee Titans went into New England and defeated them 20-13. This is interesting for a few reasons. It happens to be the first time the Patriots were eliminated from the wild card weekend since 2009. The Baltimore Ravens defeated them 33-14.
What also makes this lost difficult for many Patriots fans is this could of been Tom Brady’s last game in a Patriots uniform. For the first time in his career, Tom Brady is an unrestricted free agent. This has lead a lot of people thinking that the Patriots dynasty is over. When it comes to the National Football League, teams tend to be good for a short window. Most of the time it doesn’t last more than five years. The Patriots have been dominate for eighteen years. This is not something we have ever seen before in any of the four major North American sports. The Chicago Bulls were one of the top teams in the NBA in the 1990’s. But after Jordan left, they regressed. The New York Yankees were dominate from 1996-2008. We have never seen a team be this dominate for close to two decades.
The future of this dynasty will hinge on whether or not Brady resigns. If Brady were to bolt for another team, I can’t see any way the Patriots continue to be successful. The other problems facing the Patriots is you have more competition. For many years, the Patriots owned the AFC. With the rise of Lamar Jackson in Baltimore, Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City, and Deshaun Watson in Houston; it is tough for Brady and company to stay atop.
I think if Brady doesn’t resign, I would also watch Bill Belichick future in New England as well. He is 67 years old and has done everything. He has nothing else to prove. Bill Belichick will go down as the GOAT when it comes to NFL coaches. But I feel if Brady isn’t there, I don’t see Bill Belichick staying as well.
The Tennessee Titans head to Baltimore and have a showdown with the Ravens next weekend.
