NFL Rumors: It’s Either Jay Cutler or Tony Romo. Who do you want?
NFL teams right on the bubble must make a decision this offseason. There are a few teams that are a player, or should I say a QB away from making the playoffs and possibly contending for a Super Bowl appearance. However, the list of QBs available or soon to be is not that long and trustworthy.
Teams like the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills are right there but need that extra oomph to get them over that edge. When their respective GMs scroll down the list of possibilities they will come across two names that could either make or break their season or careers.

Romo has lost his job with the Dallas Cowboys thanks to the emergence of Dak Prescott. With Prescott cemented as the starter the Cowboys were all but forced to either trade or release Romo which leads many to wonder; what team will take a chance on a 36-year old vet with injury concerns and only two playoff victories to his name? Despite those red flags, Romo has been productive when healthy. But, can he stay that way for an entire season? Since the 2014 season ended, Romo has played in only five games and depending on the price he may not be worth the risk.
If a team like the Broncos are willing to give Romo the Peyton Manning shot and try to ride the arm of a vet but cheaper than this may be Romo’s best chance. The current crop of Broncos QBs are not ready and another year of watching and learning may be what’s best for Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian. The Texans, if they can find someone crazy enough to trade for Brock Osweiler (or release) may be in the market for Romo but even that’s a quick fix with no real valuable backup, resulting in them looking for a person to take over in another year or two.
Cutler is the wildcard here. His contract may be huge but the majority of that was guaranteed money which has mostly been paid. The Chicago Bears, if they cannot find a sucker, I mean trade partner to take Cutler off their hands will be forced to release him, which should give teams a shot. The Bills will be perfect for Cutler as he will team with Sammy Watkins and LeSean McCoy on an offense that could be dynamic to pair with a stout defense. The Jags could be a possibility for Cutler as well if they have given up all hope on Blake Bortles.
Cutler has the arm, his issues have always been what’s going on between the ears. He’s a little aloof according to teammates but if given the right formula he could take a team on the bubble and give them a chance. Cutler has a gunslinger’s mentality which can result in big games but it can easily backfire with turnovers.
There will be teams that are willing to give both players a chance this season but will they succeed is the question? Low risk, huge reward.
