NFL Rumors: New York Jets May Release Teddy Bridgewater
The New York Jets are expected to take a QB with the No. 3 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. But what does that mean for their other QB’s they already have on their roster? According to NFL Trade Rumors, Teddy Bridgewater is not guaranteed a spot on the roster despite being signed as a free agent a month ago.
As for Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg, they could easily be released or traded.
The Jets will have five QBs after Thursday night. That’s one too many. Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty are trade/release candidates. But Teddy Bridgewater isn’t a lock for a roster spot, at least until he shows he‘s healthy. pic.twitter.com/bBDxb0HQFi

I guess that makes sense from a roster standpoint. But what happens if whatever rookie they select struggles or Josh McCown gets hurt again. I mean, he is 38-years old. Are the Jets making a wise decision here? For years, the Jets have searched for a leader at the position. This draft is where they are expected to find their savior. However, nothing ever goes as planned in the NFL Draft and the Jets may be putting themselves in a tight spot if they were to release or trade these players.
Are The Jets Making A Mistake With Bridgewater
With rumors circulating that the Jets will select Baker Mayfield if the Cleveland Browns select Sam Darnold, the Jets will then have five QB’s on their roster heading into Training Camp. With Bridgewater signing a $6 million deal this offseason, he seemed like a safe bet to make the team. But wait, only $500,000 of that is guaranteed money so the Jets cutting him would not be seen as a huge hit. As for the others, Hackenberg nor Petty has earned the right to be considered future Jets. It’s not as if they haven’t had their time to wrestle the job away for one another, but in the process, they may have signed their own walking papers with poor performances.
As it looks now, the Jets will release three QB’s and go with a rookie and a vet and pray for the best.
