NFL Rumors: Packers And Patriots Could Be Top Destinations For Brandon Marshall

The New York Giants, according to Bleacher Report, have released wide receiver Brandon Marshall after just one season with the team. In 2017, Marshall joined Eli Manning and Odell Beckham. His presence was expected to help bolster one of the best seasons in regards to the Giants’ passing attack. However, Brandon Marshall and Beckham went down with season-ending injuries and the rest is history.

With Marshall now released, the question as to where he will play next season is a hot topic. While plenty of teams will pop up, the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots are two who will benefit the most with a veteran presence. For his career, Marshall has caught 959 passes for 12,215 yards and 82 touchdowns. Although his season was cut short in 2017, Marshall still has enough in the tank to be a great possession receiver for either Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady.

With both teams a little short in their receiving core, adding Marshall at a cheap price is worth the gamble.

The Packers and Patriots Will Be A Great Fit For Brandon Marshall

The Packers will employ a core of Randall Cobb and Davante Adams, Rodgers will need a big-bodied receiver to go across the middle and catch those fade passes in the red-zone. As for the Patriots, they still have Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, and Jordan Matthews. But with Matthews coming off a lackluster season with the Buffalo Bills, Bill Belichick may want an insurance policy after trading Brandin Cooks to the Los Angeles Rams this offseason.

With Marshall failing his latest physical, that may scare away most teams. However, the Packers and Patriots can afford to take a risk on a proven veteran. And one whom they may be able to sign for less than $4 million on a one-year deal.
