NFL Teams In Panic Mode After Week 7 (2021)

Miami Dolphins Albert Wilson

One more week passed, one more week of panic for these NFL Teams:

Kansas City Chiefs

It’s one thing if you’re a bad team, you won’t keep making the list, but as each week goes on the Chiefs get worse and worse. After the blowout loss in the Super Bowl, when is it safe to say that Patrick Mahomes has the yips? Gone is the swagger of a quarterback who could do no wrong. Mahomes is all up in his head and isn’t playing up to his level. Yes, injuries have slowed them down, but in the long run, there’s more at play than just missing players.

Baltimore Ravens

Not only did the Ravens lose the game, but they lost in spectacular fashion. A 41-17 loss against the division rival who is on a rare in the NFL hot streak right now. They lost the game and the lead on the division. Luckily for them, at the very least, should they not regain the top spot there’s no one really stepping up in pushing the wildcard race. Baltimore is down but not out, but should have plenty of reasons to panic after that performance

Miami Dolphins

Every time you watch the Dolphins play this year, Tom Petty’s – Free Fallin’ plays in your head. A team that was one of the hottest teams in football last year can’t find a way to win the close games. They had the top defense, they can’t stop anyone. Back-to-back games they let teams drive down the field and kick the game-winning field goal. Even if they trade for Watson, a defense that can’t stop opponents isn’t going to make it any easier.

Carolina Panthers

Remember when Sam Darnold led the league in rushing touchdowns? Finishing the season in the lead was about as unlikely as the Panthers staying on a hot streak under Darnold. Not that he’s the problem, but with McCaffrey out and an offense that’s built around his success, the Panthers look lost. Too many teams paint themselves into a corner when they lose their lone weapon and Carolina is proof with a 4 game losing streak.

San Francisco 49ers

It’s time to end the Jimmy Garappolo era. You got a good 5 game winning streak when he came over. He’s been hurt, awful, and nothing close to the same spark. You’ve got a rookie in waiting and you’re not climbing back into a divisional race where the top 2 teams have combined for 1 loss in 14 games. Your only hope is to not finish at the bottom of the division and in today’s NFL, that’s at least something. It was nice while it lasted, but rip the bandaid off and show your scars. It won’t be pretty, but at least you’ll have tape for Trey Lance to study.

It’s tough to win in today’s NFL landscape. 50-60% of the teams end up with losing or break-even records. Can these teams snap their streaks or will there be more panic ahead?
