New York Jets: Three Questions Heading into the 2018 Season
The New York Jets are coming into the upcoming season with a ton of hope and optimism. They aren’t coming off a terrible season as they went 5-11, but there is a ton of hope this season. They feel that they got their next Joe Namath in Sam Darnold. However, in order to have success this season, there are three questions that need to be answered.
Question 1 – Who starts Week 1?
The New York Jets kick off the 2018 season on the road in Detroit for Monday Night Football. It will be very interesting to see who will be behind center to take the snap. It could be Josh McCown, Teddy Bridgewater, or rookie Sam Darnold. If I were Todd Bowles, there’s only one way I would go about it. I would push McCown to be the QB coach. I would start Teddy Bridgewater for the first couple of games. Then depending on how it is going, I would either continue with Bridgewater or start Darnold.
Question 2 – How many wins do the Jets need to have to make sure Todd Bowles isn’t fired?
The Jets have a ton of winnable games that would lead people to think they do better than 5-11. I would say the Jets need to be in the ballpark of 7-9 wins and Bowles comes back the next season. If they go 5 wins or worse than Bowles won’t be brought back again. While you can’t blame last year on Bowles, it gets to the point that the coach needs to be looked at.
Question 3 – What will be the X Factor?
This Jets team is an interesting one. However, when you look at all the pieces I feel the play of the QB will be a huge factor. In the Falcons game, Darnold was playing well. If he is able to do that against teams like the Packers, Patriots, Steelers, and other top teams, then the Jets may be a force to be wreaking with.
